China's "green credit" plan encountered local obstacles
Pan Yue, deputy director of the State Environmental Protection Administration, pointed out in recent days that the obstacles encountered by green credits illustrate the difficulties in changing the current pattern and rules. Some local officials have treated the Central Government’s directives on restricting lending to highly polluting industries. Only some provinces have had limited success in restricting credit. Since the implementation of the “Green Credit” plan, the State Environmental Protection Administration has reported to the banking regulatory agencies about 30,000 companies with a relatively low level of environmental violations.
