Plant morphology
Perennial woody vines, up to 20 meters in length. Rooted. Stem cylindrical, gray-brown, with fine grooves. Leaves alternate, thick papery or leathery, ovoid, 7-15 cm long, 5-12 cm wide, apex acuminate or cuspidate, base slightly heart-shaped or subtruncate, entire or 3--7-angled Shallow cracked, green above, grayish green below, nearly glabrous, base veins 5–7; petiole 5–15 cm long. Flowers uni***ual, cymes arranged conical; flowers small, male sepals 6, pale yellow, 2 round, petals 6, pale green, stamens 9–12; female sepals, petals similar to male flowers, staminodes 9 Carpel 3, free, style reflexes. Drupe flat spherical, dark red when ripe. Seeds half moon. Flowering from June to July, fruiting period from August to September.
