LGD plans to double OLED TV panel production in 2019
South Korea's Seoul Forum reported that LG Display (LGD) plans to double its OLED TV panel production capacity to 120,000 pieces per month after its 8.5th generation line in Guangzhou was put into operation in 2019.
Reported that the new production capacity will make LGD enough to meet the increasing demand of TV customers in Japan, China and Europe.
The report also pointed out that due to its OLED TV sales, Sony plans to double the volume of OLED TV panels purchased from LGD from 300,000 in 2017 to 600,000 by 2019.
LGD currently has a monthly production capacity of 30,000 OLED substrates, including 8,000 from the E3 plant and 26,000 from the E4-1 and E4-2 plants. At the same time, the Guangzhou 8.5-generation factory has 60,000 monthly production capacity.
IHS pointed out that by 2021, global shipments of OLED TVs are expected to increase from 723,000 units in 2016 to 6.6 million units.
