Siemens India's digital factory built with an annual output of more than 5 million
[Global Science and Technology Comprehensive Report] According to the “Economic Times” of India on July 6, Siemens’ digital plant in Mumbai, India, was built and put into operation on the 5th. This is also the third digital factory opened by Siemens in addition to Germany and China. This facility can provide smart facilities to Indian SMEs.
Siemens hopes to use Mumbai's digital factories to demonstrate and sell a series of factory automation equipment and software to Indian manufacturing companies. Karlheinz Kaul, president of the company's Control Components and Systems Engineering Division, said: "We want to shorten the cycle and time to market. This data flow is achievable because digitalization is accelerating the entire process and improving the entire value chain."
Located in the outs******ts of Mumbai, this digital plant can produce more than 180 low-voltage switchgears. It can produce one unit every 9 seconds and the annual output can reach more than 5 million units. These machines are based on the Internet of Things technology. Sensors are installed on the fuselage and the resulting data is used to track records and improve their performance.
The digital factory is one of nine divisions of Siemens and aims to provide a comprehensive software and hardware product portfolio to integrate data from development, production and suppliers. Ashish Bhat, executive vice president of the company’s Indian digital plant, said: “India is a price-sensitive market, and without this flexible manufacturing, it cannot produce at the right market price. Small and medium-sized companies are rushing into aviation. Aerospace, automotive and other industries are indispensable parts of the supply chain and we need to address their needs."
Siemens' first two digital factories were built in Germany and China respectively. Kaul said: "India is an attractive market, and it is still growing. We need to help it win a place in the competitive environment, so (we) start investing here."
