The pine knots of Pinus tabulaeformis and Pinus massoniana are mainly composed of cellulose, lignin (Lignin), a small amount of volatile oil (turpentine) and resin; volatile oils contain more than 90% of α- and β-pinene (Pinene). Another small amount of terpene (camphene), dipentene (dipentene), etc., also contains grease. The pine tree of Pinus tabulaeformis also contains ursolic acid and isopimaric acid.
Pine knots have certain analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects; extracted acidic polysaccharides show anti-tumor effects; extracted polysaccharides, hot water extracts, and acidic extracts all have immune activity.
