On the eve of the World Metrology Day, the Chongqing Bureau of Quality Supervision invited citizens’ representatives and the media to enter the water meter manufacturing companies and certification agencies to understand the quality control process of water meters from production to investment.

Zhang Song, senior engineer of the Chongqing Institute of Metrology and Quality Inspection, introduced that the measurement and control of water metering requires “three levels”: the first level is the implementation of water metering equipment license management for water meter manufacturers by the quality supervision department, through a series of product testing tests, Production site assessments and practitioner assessments only grant compliance with national requirements before granting manufacturing licenses for measuring instruments. Only certified manufacturers are allowed to produce water meters.

The second stage is the implementation of the first inspection management before the use of water meters, and the third-party inspection agencies authorized by the quality supervision department. The water meter manufacturers shall implement the factory inspection, qualified water meters, and be put on the first inspection signboard before they can be sold on the market.

The third level is the sampling inspection of products. Each year, the national and municipal quality supervision departments must carry out spot checks on water meters. The qualified rate of water meters in our city is maintained at over 98% year-round.
